Pastor Jerome L. Warfield, Sr. is a native Detroiter, graduate of the Detroit Public School System, Michigan State University and Ashland Theological Seminary. In March of 2020 Pastor Warfield was named the new pastor of Unity Baptist Church in Detroit, following in the footsteps of his Spiritual Father, Rev. Dr. Valmon D. Stotts.
Pastor Warfield worked seventeen years in the private sector for some the nation’s leading pharmaceutical companies. He served as pastor of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church for 15 years where he labored as a community organizer in the Brightmoor neighborhood. Pastor Warfield served as president of the Brightmoor Alliance, leading it to become a fully paid staffed organization. Pastor Warfield served for twelve years as Chairman of Trinity CDC where he recruited, trained, and placed over 1,400 youth in various positions for summer youth employment opportunities, paying out over $1,000,000.00 to youth and staff, until his new appointment as Pastor of Unity Baptist Church.
Pastor Warfield has held senior executive level positions in criminal justice for the past eleven years. Currently, he is serving his third appointment as a member of the Michigan Parole Board and was recently named as a national trainer to train new parole board members throughout the country for the National Institute of Corrections.
Prior to his current assignment, Pastor Warfield led several efforts to reform various aspects of the Detroit Police Department. As a two-term chair of the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners, Pastor Warfield successfully led a team effort to re-constitute the civilian investigative arm of the Detroit Police Commission; Office of the Chief Investigator (OCI), which investigates complaints against the Detroit Police Department, he led the effort to overhaul the Detroit Police Towing system and he led the effort to secure candidates for the Chief of Police vacancy, leading to the selection of Chief James Craig.
Pastor Warfield has been married to Jacqueline for 29 years; he is the son of Patricia Carothers, and the father of Jessica, Jerome, Jr. and Justin.
